Filling out the Tabula Cerata
SAVE THE REPUBLIC WITH A MIND OF IRON. Dictator of Rome serves three fresh logic puzzles each dawn. Study the reports, divine the enemy, and command the legions before the sun sets on the Republic.
Start with direct matches
If a clue confirms a pairing, find the row and column for those items and mark that square with a ✔. Then add ✖ marks to every other square in that row and column because each category can only be used once.
Use “no connection” statements
When Master Equitim’s counsel warns a tactic will not work or that two details are unconnected, mark an ✖ where their row and column meet. Removing options often reveals the only possible ✔ in a row.
Cross-reference remaining options
Keep scanning each clue and the partially filled grid. Once a row or column has three ✖ marks, the remaining blank square must be the ✔. Continue until every category has exactly one ✔.
Example
“There is a connection between the Samnites and the Janiculum Hill.” Mark ✔ where their labels intersect. Next, “The Samnites will not attempt a river crossing.” Place an ✖ in that square, and the rest of the Samnites’ tactic row can be marked ✖ because only one ✔ is allowed per row.
You can always reopen this tutorial or tap a heading in the grid to read a short description of each enemy, tactic, or location.
